A heated saltwater pool overlooking the turquoise inlets of the Bay of Islands in New Zealand's far north.
Paihia is the small waterfront town that serves as base camp for the Bay of Islands — 144 islands scattered across one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the southern Pacific. The Paihia Beach Resort sits directly on the foreshore, its saltwater pool angled for the long view across the bay to Russell.
The pool is heated year-round and reserved for adults; the deck looks straight out at the morning ferries pulling away from the wharf. Swim, then take one of those ferries to the Hole in the Rock and back.
