Iconic ocean-fed pool carved into the cliffs of Bondi Beach, where waves crash over the edge at high tide.
Bondi Icebergs is perhaps the most iconic ocean-fed pool in the world and an important part of Sydney's identity. The 50-metre lap pool sits flush against the southern headland of Bondi Beach, and at high tide the swell breaks straight over the lane ropes, a dramatic feature making for an exciting swim.
Founded in 1929 by local life savers who wanted a place to swim during the winter months, today the pool is available to the public 7 days a week. Come at sunrise to share the lanes with regulars in silicone caps, or at golden hour when the light catches the spray. Cleaning takes place on Thursdays when the pool is drained then refilled by the Pacific.
