The pool
A vast saltwater lagoon-style pool wrapped around a sandy beach in the heart of a Gold Coast resort village.
The InterContinental at Sanctuary Cove was conceived in the 1980s as a recreation of a colonial Queensland village — colonnaded buildings, broad verandahs, and at its centre a one-acre saltwater lagoon with its own white-sand beach. The water is filtered with salt and kept warm through the southern winter.
Children float on inflatables in the shallow end while adults swim laps along the deeper edge. The marina, golf courses, and restaurants of Sanctuary Cove are all a short walk away — but most guests never make it past the towel cabana.
