    Blue Pool Bermagui

    Bermagui, New South Wales, Australia

    The pool

A natural rock-cut ocean pool on the Sapphire Coast, refilled twice a day by the Pacific.

The Blue Pool is one of the small, fierce ocean pools that punctuate the New South Wales coastline — carved out of the rock at the base of a cliff in Bermagui, accessed by a steep set of stairs.

At low tide it's a calm rectangle of turquoise; at high tide the Pacific pours straight in over the eastern edge. There's no fee, no lifeguard, and no shade — just one of the loveliest free swims on the Sapphire Coast.
