The pool
A seawater pool cut directly into the red porphyry rocks of the Côte d'Azur, refilled by the tide.
Les Roches Rouges, a beautifully restored 1950s hotel by the Estérel massif, has one of the only true seawater pools on the French Riviera. Water enters from the Mediterranean through underground channels and is exchanged with the tide.
The pool feels less like a piece of architecture than a tide pool that happens to have a ladder. Swim in the early evening, when the red rocks glow against the dark sea.
