The pool
The only Olympic-sized saltwater pool in Venice, set in a garden on the tip of Giudecca.
Built in the late 1950s on the orders of Giuseppe Cipriani — the man who invented the Bellini — this pool was Venice's quiet rebellion against a city that lives on water but has nowhere to swim.
Today it stretches the full length of the Belmond garden, refilled with filtered saltwater each season. A vaporetto from St Mark's drops you at the gate.
