The pool
A restored 1930s lido in the heart of Milan, repainted in dusky pinks and run by the theatre next door.
The Bagni Misteriosi are the rare combination of public pool and cultural instituiton. Originally opened in 1939, according to the design of Lorenzo Secchi, the pool fell into ruin and was reborn in 2016 under the stewardship of the adjacent Teatro Franco Parenti. The pools were repainted a muted rose, the changing cabins restored, and the surrounding gardens replanted creating a swim oasis in the middle of metropolitan Milan.
By day, the Milanese come to swim laps and read newspapers under the pines. At night, the pool deck becomes a stage for concerts, film screenings and aperitivo. Just remember to bring your swim cap, or buy one onsite, as it's required for a dip in the pool
