    Kitsilano Pool

    Vancouver, Canada

    The pool

Canada's longest outdoor saltwater pool, stretched along the shore of English Bay with the North Shore mountains beyond.

At 137 meters, or three full Olympic lengths laid end to end, Kits Pool is the longest outdoor swimming pool in Canada. Opened in 1931 and rebuilt in the 1970s, it remains a beloved Vancouver institution, drawing lap swimmers from May to September with heated, salt-filtered water.

The view from the lanes is impressive: freighters at anchor, the green ridge of Stanley Park to the north, and on a clear day the snow-streaked silhouette of the North Shore mountains. You might even hear the sea lions barking offshore.
