    Cliff House Maine

    Cape Neddick, Maine, United States

    The pool

A heated saltwater infinity pool perched on the granite cliffs of Maine's southern coast, wide open to the Atlantic.

Cliff House has stood on Bald Head Cliff in southern Maine since 1872, the original Victorian inn long since rebuilt as a sleek modern resort. The pool is its centrepiece — a heated saltwater infinity edge laid out along the cliff, the water visually meeting the grey-blue Atlantic forty metres below.

Time the visit for early autumn, when the foliage starts to turn behind you and the lobster boats still work the bay in front. The water stays warm enough to swim into October; the cocktails on the adjacent deck do the rest.
